Chuvash Songs in Kodály’s Footsteps

Hungary

1 April 7 pm - Castle Garden Bazaar, Event Hall

Figuli Judit

By Balázs Vizeli and his band

Featuring: Andrea Navratil and László Demeter

Deep layers of Hungarian folk melodies emerge when Andrea Navratil, Balázs Vizeli and his band featuring László Demeter perform. Hear what experts have known for long: pentatonic melodies of the Chuvash and Mari tradition are at the root of Hungarian music. Kodály was one of the first to recognize and research this connection, also reflected in the pedagogical method he established, and UNESCO acclaims. Kodály’s field recordings and common pentatonic melodies run through the programme, debuting at Pont Festival, that will impress folk music connoisseurs.

Kálmán Balogh: cimbalom
Balázs Istvánfi: duda
Zoltán Juhász: flutes, duda
