Malik Mansurov is known as one of the best tar-players, a key instrument in azeri mugham. The intangible heritage listed genre has evolved from courtly tradition and folk music, with intricate form and flights of improvisation: each mugham performance is unique.
A tradition spanning centuries will receive an inspired and masterly rendition by Mansurov, Ehtiram Huseynov Bahadur (voice), Elshan Mansurov (kamancha) and Ramin Abdullayev Shamsaddin (nagara).
Azeri mugham, related to the maquam of Iranian, Turkish and Arabic music, has been on UNESCO’s intangible heritage list since 2008.
